I limited myself with pencil sketches for years. Staying firmly in my comfort zone. Then life got in the way and I didn't draw for many years. In 2006 I dusted off my artistic tendencies and without the constraints of habit holding me back, I started to try other mediums and watched hours of YouTube videos on various styles and techniques. Inspired... I endeavored to have a go at them all, why not? Now, I churn out pictures and paintings like a machine and have a lot of fun doing it. Anything goes, any medium, any paper and topic I desire at the time. It's like dipping into a hat and seeing what comes out next. Even I'm surprised at what appears sometimes. Some are good, some are.... not so good and some are flat out weird. Each piece teaching me something different.
I listen to music or audio books whilst I am creating. Sometimes this comes through in the piece. I can look at a painting and know exactly what book I was listening to based on certain features of the painting.... sometimes the book drove the painting direction.
Occasionally when the rare creative wind blows pure, I can have a painting just 'fall out' of me and its perfect and simple and amazing, and I try to recreate it in another piece but can't for the life of me get anywhere near it looking like the first. These are few and far between but when they happen, I love those paintings, they are my favourite. So I guess I'm going on an artistic journey, I'm curious to see where it goes, you're welcome to come along.
Please note: I'm not a photographer and therefore the images I submit are the best I could muster with a snappy.
